Bed Rest Diaries: Catching Up Part 4

In the months of October and early November my bigger DIY projects became smaller and started to mainly center around the designing and planning our second child's nursery.

Michael's childhood night stands

Refinished with Aqua paint, distressed, glazed and given new hardware.  The perfect accessory for our guest room.
Constructed this chalkboard with decorative base boards and birchwood from Home Depot.

The chalkboard is complete with Aqua trim and black chalkboard paint.

Now onto the nursery! The two main projects I had in our baby's room was to refinish our old dresser  with gray paint and new white hardware as well as refinish and transform my old college desk into a changing table.

This is what the nursery currently looks like.  This picture was painted by Michael's grandmother and was one of the first paintings we received from her after getting married.  It lived for 4 years above our bed as we moved from our house in Fresno to our house in Sacramento.   But as many of you know, I opt for change quite frequently and it was time for our beloved painting to find a new home.  The new home was found and  it has been such a joy to build our second child's nursery around this family heirloom.

Next, I dreamed up some new DIY updating ideas that I wanted to try in our bedroom and bathroom.  Here are the before and after pictures of what I did.

Before (notice the nightstands: inherited from Michael's childhood room)

Refinished mirror above bed, lamps, and full length mirror from Homegoods, nightstands and ottomans from Ikea

I then decided that the mirror that was once located above the fireplace needed an update and new home above our dresser. I refinished the mirror in blue with a gray glaze finish.

Oh this chair! First of all, as many of you know, I am not a huge fan of antique furniture or floral print but it was given to us by a dear family member so I just couldn't part with it.  Here is what it looked like before...

A little paint, white satin fabric, and silver nailhead trim gave this chair a complete revival!

Striped fabric from Ikea was used to make the pillow.  Although I wish I could take credit for the incredible sew job, one of my closest and most talented friends Chrissy Martin was kind enough to take on the job.

This chair is currently placed in our bathroom as a temporary fix while I am bed resting (hatching) our second child.

Lastly, I found it mirror on clearance at Homegoods and again couldn't pass it up.

A little metallic paint transformed this mirror into something perfect for our bathroom!

Now onto my current projects!

My next project was to move into our kitchen and dining room area for a little DIY updating.  Heres what we did!

Dining Room Before
I found the large antique mirror and refinished it in gold and changed out the decor.

I painted the pine armoire white, distressed it with brown accents and replaced the
    hardware with crystal knobs.

When we moved in, there was a dark green accent wall and floral style valances that hung in the dining room as seen in the picture below.

And after with new paint color...much better

Last but not least, I found a DIY dinning room table project on pinterest and just couldn't help myself.

Before
I painted the legs of the table white, stained, distressed 7 2x4s and bolted them to the existing tables.

Still more to come!

I know I have been very neglectful when it has come to posting on our blog page, but since finding out and announcing that we were expecting our second child in March, I had some necessary nesting that kicked in right away.  Here are some of the projects I was able to accomplish from July until November.

Our first project was a new couch which turned into a complete DIY renovation!

Our second project happened behind the couch with a new white glaze finish on this dresser.

Our BIG Announcement...

We had the surprise and new discovery of finding out a couple of weeks ago that we are pregnant and expecting our second child at the beginning of March.  And it prompted my desire to finally create and put together this blog.  Since moving to Sacramento, it has been my desire to share our lives,  as well as our ever changing struggles with our closest family and friends.  So our journey as 4 begins. Here are the first photo shoot of our newest addition.

If you look closely, the head is on the right followed by the arms, belly and legs on the left.

We are excited to see what sweet little person God has further blessed us with!
